Lest we not also forget the over 58,000 US tropps kiled in Vietnam. Also to ensure our freedom.

Editor's Note: amen to that, brother.

It's a shame we've had so many honorable soldiers and marines die recently. Rest in peace.

Absolutely a beautiful commentary on why we are who we are. If only others would stop to try to understand how fortunate we are in this country; and in this world!

thumbsup.gif I had the opportunity to talk with a member of our military last week. He left me with a simple statement that sums it up nicely. If these brave men and women did not believe in what they are doing, they would not volunteer. Pretty much says it all. I thanked him for his continued service and walked away feeling proud to be an American.

thumbsup.gif Hay Bob, An inspiring and uplifting column today. I wish the families of all who lost loved ones or who suffered injury all the best in the future. I wish that we did not have to send the best of our young people into harms way. Saddly that is the cost of freedom. I also hope for the best to all who served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces. God bless and keep them safe!

Thank you, Mrs. Galvez. Your son has my sincere respect and thanks, and your family will be in my prayers. I am sorry for your terrible loss.

To have liberty means to be apart from an oppressor. Just as we must not fail to appreciate the heroic efforts carried out daily by the men and women in our military who defend us and others from would-be oppressors, we must not fail to see that right here at home there are plenty of politicians who are vying for power grabs in precisely the fashion our Founding Fathers sought to avoid.

Become familiar with the Constitution and become familiar with the voting records of local, state and federal legislators and this will become alarmingly clear.

thumbsup.gif Thank you. As a former Marine Mom, I love the corp, and I would have expected nothing less than the respect that was shown. My deepest sympathy and prayers.

Bob---I don't have away tosend E-mail but I wanted to comment on U.P.S. and the fix that they are in. I think they were right! I work for U.T.A. and we won't hire anyone thats deaf to be a driver, and rightly so!! Everyone should be concerned about safety on the road!!!

Editor's Note: this is in reference to a 9th circuit court of appeals ruling that ups cannot ban deaf people from being delivery truck drivers.

thumbsup.gif I would like to express my condolences to the Galvez family at the loss of their son, Adam.

Ten years ago, I served in the same battalion and company. Marines are a family, and look after one another. I was gratified to hear about the compassion they displayed to the families of those lost in battle.

Please know, Mrs. Galvez, that in addition to that full parking lot of Marines you saw, are hundreds of thousands of current and former Marines like me all over the country who are supporting you in this time of grief. May the pain you feel in your son's death be eclipsed by the pride and joy you feel in the life he lived.

Semper Fi,

Lcpl.John LeDoux, USMC, ret.

First Bob, I want to thank you for sharing this lette with us. The brotherhood between Marines (past, present and future) is known world wide. It's known even in Heaven, "And the streets are guard by United States Marines" (taken from the Marine Corps Hymn). I served proudly from 1963-1973. I joined the Marine Corps, because I knew if I passed the initial test (USMC Bootcamp) I could pass and tests that life could present to me. The pride that swells in my heart for all our Military, but especially my fellow Marines can not be described. My prayers to to Amy Galvez and all the other families that have loss a Marine (and other Military Families. SEMPER FI TO YOU ALL!. You are as much a Marine as your son or daughter that have proudly served.

Bob,

Thanks for remembering those who serve and the families that are left behind to wait. Our prayers are added to theirs for the safe return home of the sons and daughters that they love. Many have served so that we may enjoy the freedoms others do not have and can not imagine. It's sad when so many take these freedoms for granted. The price is high to maintain these liberties.

Thanks to all who have sacrificed to keep us free. Thanks to all who serve. Thanks to all who mourn the loss of a loved one. Your loss is our loss, too.

thumbsup.gif Bob,

I thought that Cindy Sheehan said these guys were a bunch of war mongering, baby killers, with no souls. Could I be missing something?

thumbsup.gif Bob:

Thank you for sharing this with us. The whole Galvez family is with us in our prayers. What a hero this man was. I only hope that soon no mother will have to endure what this woman has. I could not survive if I lost my "boys". He was a hero and will never be forgotten.

thumbsup.gif To Amy Galvez,

I do not know how I might bear up under the weights that mortality has set upon your shoulders and heart. There is little I can say or do to lift those off of you and your sweet family. I morn your loss with you, and shed tears that such a son had been born of you and raised to be the kind of man that I hope my sons will become. This country is great because mothers like you have taught their sons to be men of good character, valiant in doing what is right; to be the kind of man that a mother could take by the hand before the Father of us all and present him as being worthy of his mortal probation. And such a son would say back to us all that it was because of his parents, and especially his mother, that he did anything great at all.

I read this and can't help but get a tear in my eye. I couldn't imagine the loss you must feel. I was just telling my wife a couple days ago that we don't give enough credit to the men and women who serve this country! I once never gave to much thought of the men and women of this great country that have made it free as it is and has been. I just hope the young and old of today take a moment from now and then to give thanks! When I'm sitting in my tree stand this weekend hunting, I will think of your son and all others who have gave there life for this country. I give thanks to your son and others like him for the freedoms I have today!
