UTAH MUST AVOID LEGISLATIVE MISSTEPS

Agreed!

# 2. 2/19/10 6:32 AM by Rod - CANADA
Since you, as usual, mention your great love of guns, it should also be mentioned that I learned here yesterday that guns are tools. I had always mistakenly considered them weapons. I thought tools were to build things and guns were for killing things, especially people. I was told I shouldn't be against guns, when, actually, I'm just against violence. I'm now looking in the second amendment for the "right to bear tools".

I had a Browning rifle as a kid, but I didn't understand the history behind it. I don't have it now, but I have a Browning Buckmark that is a fun little shooter. I can spend an hour at the range for $15.00 worth of ammo.

Regarding the column - has Utah gone insane?

Editor's Note: the buckmark is a very nice little gun. good purchase.

What's a matter 'ROD'? Not enough in your own backyard(Canada) to comment on? Wish it was legal to own BAR..I could put an end to the 'Canadian Intervention'..My apology to the 'other' Canadian that posts here.

Common sense = conservative = cut spending, smaller more efficient government = the ability to cut taxes, cuts that stimulate job growth, investment, a stronger economy.

You are so correct Bob, we are in a battle, a battle where we can not afford to give the opposition ammunition and both of these bills do that.

# 6. 2/19/10 8:27 AM by Mark
thumbsup.gif You are a wise man, Bob. If we don't attack racist ideas like affirmative action now, then when?

On another matter, sweet carma with that Duke lacrosse woman.

No apology needed Kevin. Rod Crouch is a classic liberal whiner of the first degree. We have a lot of them living in Canada's largest welfare city.

Hey Rod. Does your head make a whistling sound in a high wind?

I don't think that all conservatives are racist, but when you look at the tea party movement (or conservative Constitutionalism as you call it), one can't help but be a little suspicious. I wonder why these people were so quiet during W's reign. Where was the outrage then, during arguably one of the most blatant assaults on the U.S. Constitution in generations? It makes me wonder if there isn't some additional motivation behind all the fury.

Editor's Note: nice try, puke. happy fubo first anniversary.

# 9. 2/19/10 9:11 AM
Did you hear any clips from Marco Rubio's speech at the Conservative Political Action Committee? You can Google the transcript. It's inspiring.

Editor's Note: He has me fired up. He's part of the rising tide. And he's a dagger in the heart of the RINOs. God bless him.

# 10. 2/19/10 9:31 AM by Grandma
Amen on both bills. Also, they need to pass the one to allow Utahns to buy and use guns made in Utah without Fed permits. I heard that the guv is concerned about such a law being unconstitutional. WHAT????

# 11. 2/19/10 9:48 AM by drawlr - slc, ut
MLK Day is a politically-correct holiday. It will always be Civil Rights Day in my mind. Celebrate the accomplishment, not the man. I figure that if the father of our country doesn't get his own holiday, why should anyone else, including Columbus?

But, hey, being a government puke, I'll take any excuse for a day off. How about Moon Landing Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day, D-Day Day, Arbor Day, V-E Day, V-J Day, Emancipation Proclamation Day, etc.? There are still a lot of events that our government religion could celebrate.

Editor's Note: i go for hiroshima day, but we call it "pearl harbor payback day."

# 12. 2/19/10 9:48 AM by DD
Number 8 insinuates that there are no black Teabaggers, therefor the Teabaggers are racist. Such logic!

Teabaggers want less government, less taxes, less handouts to lazy people who refuse to do anything but reproduce.

Teabaggers want increased personal responsibility, less government intervention.

Teabaggers don't want to pay for the health care of illegal aliens.

Teabaggers want secure borders and the deportation of illegal criminals.

Teabaggers want jobs, not handouts.

The only question I have is... where are the black Teabaggers? The Latinos? The Mexicans? They are more than welcome to join the fight. It is to their shame that they haven't yet arrived. I dont' expect they will, but it isn't because they haven't been invited.

# 13. 2/19/10 9:53 AM by Rod - CANADA
Kevin, "Canadian intervention"? A couple of bloggers - I guess that does sound Canadian. You didn't see any tanks, did you? George, you poor soul. You haven't learned that we tolerate different opinions in Canada? I never even complain so doubt I'm a "whiner". And I've never been a liberal - I like to think I'm well to their left. You're getting like your American friends - just making stuff up, like the guy the other day calling me a "terrorist". A pacifist terrorist - yeah, that'll stick! I hope there's no such thing as a Canadian Floyd R. Rambo.

# 14. 2/19/10 10:32 AM by Ultra Bob - salt lake city Utah
The amendment to outlaw affirmative action is just a further consolidation of the Government by Corporation for the Corporation movement that now has control of the United States. And this is only the beginning.

The other is probably a true representation of the conservative character of Utah. It would have a double purpose of showing hate for our black president and at the same time advertise the Utah pro gun attitude.

As far as giving ammunition to Democrats and liberals, you should have no concern there, Obama, by turning on the American people has permanently killed any further support for the notion of Democrats, Liberals or Blacks ever being in government again.

# 15. 2/19/10 10:53 AM
Re #12 Marco Rubio is Latino. Check out his speech to the CPAC. Awesome.

# 16. 2/19/10 11:02 AM by kevin - Roch
George (my canadian friend) You are welcome to comment anytime. But do me a favor, if you're ever in arms reach of 'Rod' give him an 'American Salute' across his face for me. And George, I'm so sorry that both our countries have 'loons' like him.

# 17. 2/19/10 11:08 AM
"Did you hear any clips from Marco Rubio's speech? He had me fired up"

Yep, and he had TWO TelePrompTers to look at(and the clips prove that he did utilize them) while bashing Pres. Obama for using just ONE. Yep, I was really fired up Bob. Just fired up over typical and never-ending conservative hypocrisy. Yep. Losers.

Editor's Note: obama uses two prompters, that's why his head bops back and forth.

May I make a suggestion to those who comment here.

The best way to reduce the affect of a blow-hard is to ignore his ranting. Canadian Rod is in it for attention and to stir the pot. He has the right and that's OK. But to respond or rise to his tripe is to feed his need and his objective.

Let him rant. Let him opine. But let it alone.

thumbsdown.gif Honouring a man who invented a weapon designed for killing people is no different than honouring the guy who invented the a-bomb or the chemicals used to kill during WWI.

Editor's Note: the a-bomb saved america. the weapons of browning bought our freedom. these people are heroes.

thumbsup.gif Good article on how some legislatures can figuratively, "Shoot themselves in the foot." It might seem like a good idea at the time, but how "IT" can come back to bite you is another story.

The only difference between a rut and a grave is the dimensions. The two wheeled ruts of our country are getting deeper and deeper all the time.

# 25. 2/19/10 2:22 PM by Bob - USA
I've always been against affirmative action. I don't need the government telling me Im not good or smart enough to make something of myself without their help. We have it and to try to get rid of it we'll get all the Jesse and Al types labelling Utah as racst as they did Arizona years ao when the MLK holiday failed by less than 1% of the vote. I think Mr. Browning needs to be recognized in a positive way for his inventions, but not a holiday. I'm holidayed out. The thing Utah needs is to stop the feds from taking even more land for unneeded national monuments. The amazing thing is that both of the places they want have some energy resouces. With the Staircase monument they took up much more land than was needed to so that it included the highest grade lowest sulpher content coal in the world. I had been up there over 30 years ago and there's nothing there.

Hmmmm... pacifist... left of liberal... you think you know it all... I'm guessing you're just a wee little guy... one of those scrawny little tofu burger eatin' types...huh? It's the only thing I can come up with. You sit on the side lines sniping on Bob's blog because it's the only place that makes you feel big or like what you say has any meaning. It's alright there little fella. Why don't you run along now and play with your friends. Have a tofu burger if you'd like. Let the adults have their conversation.

# 28. 2/19/10 2:46 PM
Come on Floyd R., I can support your bashing of Rod, but now you seek to alienate those of us who live in Utah?

And to answer your question, we do. Contrary to those who don't live in fly-over country, the sun rises and sets here too, not just in NY and LA.

# 29. 2/19/10 3:49 PM by Cami - slc, utah
thumbsup.gif Some Utah legislative conservatives are not dealing with important issues & are basic morons who keep rehashing the same thing over and over. I agree with #8 although many liberals were part of the tea party movement when it began. Don't know about the last supposed grass roots one in TN w/ Palin as the ticket prices started at $500 dollars a plate, so it's hardly grass roots!! :" # 8. 2/19/10 8:52 AM by Q - Rochester, NY I don't think that all conservatives are racist, but when you look at the tea party movement (or conservative Constitutionalism as you call it), one can't help but be a little suspicious. You spot it, you got it! The affirmative action came due to nepotism and the good ole boy network where no one would hire a person of color although no one is black and no one is white but notably people who are different. I'm sure Sarah Palin would support any program if it involved helping her Downs Syndrome child as affirmative action does.

# 30. 2/19/10 6:45 PM by Mike Rosenhan - Kearns, UT
The Birthday thing is just stupid. If we are going to celebrate John Moses Browning's birthday, then let's do it on his birthday. Frankly there are other worthy Utahns that deserve a holiday. Brigham Young comes to mind, and a Non-Utahn by the name of Joseph Smith.

Rod, Rod, Rod. It is better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth (in your case, type on your keyboard) and remove all doubt. I've missed you for the last few days. Glad you're back so I can get my daily laugh in.

# 31. 2/19/10 8:17 PM by Steve - Highland, Utah
Hi Bob, I've never heard of John Moses Browning and I'm Mormon & live in Utah and it doesn't sound like a gun maker should get this kind of recognition. I really don't like the draconian sentencing guys get for having a gun without a license though. Mixed bag there. Also, I noticed Palin laughingly covered up for Rush Limbaugh when he made several remarks saying the White House was having a retard summit and how liberals were retards over and over. Seems Sarah doesn't like when Obama, on a talk show, jokingly referred to himself regarding a sport as feeling like a retard or something to that effect, but then excuses for Rush? Then she goes biserk over some SouthPark episode. - thanks

Browning was a freedom loving capitalist.

The people who built the concentration camps were government loving socialists.

#2 the right to bear tools! how funny and I give Rod the honor of putting across the funniest and most creative comment which is also truthful. I would think they are a tool to shoot out a bullet for those who don't want to be more blatant about it. It's also ironic how republicans say they are for the constitution, yeah right. Except for......abortion, and gay rights. so much for believing in the constitution totally as in times of war the constitution is invalid and you republicans love war when your puppet is in office such as the war on drugs. How about the drug of righteous indignation so many of you are hooked on to make you feel superior?
