Amen to that! Happy Independence Day!

# 2. 7/2/10 12:40 AM
Too bad most of our politicians don't.

Neither, I'm not a vegan...

thumbsdown.gif My 25 year old son, freshly graduated with an engineering degree, as part of his National Guard unit, left for Iraq last Sunday morning to be away for a year. The realities of war and the cost of freedom takes on a different sort of meaning with this kind of perspective. He is my pride and joy, bright, trained, skilled, enthusiastic, loves a challenge. There was a lot of love, there were a lot of tears, a lot of family gathered, the veterans lined up in front of the hangar where we were gathered, each holding an American flag, all decked out in their leather and patches and gray hair and beards and ponytails, proudly supporting a new generation of soldiers was very touching. One of them, whose hand I shook, thanking him for being there, said, "We'll be here when they come home." Yeah, I'm fighting for freedom, there's no other way to have it, and it's worth it. This IS the greatest nation on earth, and many before us have fought for it; let's keep it going because we all know in our gut what it takes, and nothing short of it will do. God bless my boy, and God bless America!

# 5. 7/2/10 1:29 AM by Elizabeth Hatch - South Jordan, Utah
thumbsup.gif I don't know how that thumbs down got there on my comment; it was supposed to be a thumbs up!

# 6. 7/2/10 2:19 AM by Emily - Southern Utah
Horse manure seems drier.

# 7. 7/2/10 4:53 AM
thumbsdown.gif With all this pledgeing there isn't much room for free thinking or even freedom. An automon of ideological groupthink without discernment.

# 8. 7/2/10 5:18 AM by A Modern Day Observation
I pledge allegiance to my wallet.

# 9. 7/2/10 5:50 AM by Liberty Tom - Rochester, NY
I do too Bob, except that the last line is getting harder and harder to recite.

# 10. 7/2/10 6:43 AM by Rick G. - Spencerport, NY
All I can say is that I'm glad Francis Bellamy had an editor, or kids would be trying to memorize this version for months.

Have a happy and safe 4th.

# 11. 7/2/10 7:00 AM by OldVietVet - Rochester, NY
thumbsup.gif In Catholic grade school in the 1950s,every classroom had an American flag, properly displayed. We recited the pledge of allegiance routinely. The teacher, at the head of the classroom, would lead us students in recitation, with hand over heart facing the flag.Today, even if the teacher has the authority and patriotic inclination to lead the students in the pledge, there will likely be a challenge, and a lawsuit. And worse, there are millions of idiots who support a ban on public recitation in our schools,as they supported the ban on public prayer-and they think of themselves as "enlightened".They are instead putty in the hands of our enemies.

# 12. 7/2/10 7:15 AM
"I pledge allegence to the ...presidency....FUBO."

# 13. 7/2/10 7:18 AM by alexander - upstate ny usa
here's a question of the day:

if you crashed in the Andes mountains with Bro' Wease and Bob Lonsberry have died. Who would you eat first?

Editor's Note: here's something you can be sure of, we survive the crash and lead the hike out.

# 14. 7/2/10 7:20 AM by willly - magna utah
thumbsup.gif It sucks listening to wall st journal. I wish knrs would just replay coast 2 coast until 7.

# 15. 7/2/10 7:40 AM by DD
As for your poll... I'd rather just die.

# 16. 7/2/10 7:46 AM by alexander - upstate ny usa
wait, we gotta pull along wease? he's dead weight. lets kill him and save ourselves.

# 17. 7/2/10 7:47 AM by Beth - Canandaigua, NY
thumbsup.gif Ok, very nice column for the upcoming Holiday. Right now I am reading "John Adams" by David McCullough. Not the easiest read, but should be required reading for ALL highschool students.

Anyway, could you PLEASE cover the Philadelphia voter intimmidation mess involving Black Panther members standing in front of polling places with sticks, telling people "you are about to be ruled by a black man, cracker". This is on video. And where is our main stream media in covering this? When a black congressman says he was called racial names-when voting for Obamacare- (there is no video of it) our media couldn't give it enough coverage.

I love our country. I truly believe that God gave us this country and as stewards we have failed Him miserably.

# 18. 7/2/10 7:49 AM by MIKE
can i put the manure on a bun with ketchup and mustard? if so, I'll go with cow, because maaaaaybe, just maaaaaybe, it will taste a little like beef.

# 19. 7/2/10 7:52 AM by Dave - Rochester
Hey, #7... did you ever consider that all of this pledging came about as a result of freedom and free thinking. Maybe you should use some of that thinking time you so value to ponder the fact that your hate for those that love this country is what is wrong.

# 20. 7/2/10 7:52 AM by brosapp - Empire Blvd
thumbsdown.gif OMG! Gag me! Can you say Freedom! Can you say Liberty! Ever wonder why conservatives over-use those words? Bob you're a great American!

# 21. 7/2/10 8:04 AM
Can you please pledge to the allegiance the Downtown Rochester that once was can be again? How long has that Blue Cross & Blue Shield building on Main Street been empty. The only new business I see is a food counter bar on the corner of Main and Clinton.

# 22. 7/2/10 8:13 AM by Dave
Right on Beth. We continue to lose our freedom and our way of life. This is definately not my Grandfathers America.

# 23. 7/2/10 8:16 AM by alexander - upstate ny usa
#18 Mike. No, because you're eating what didn't become beef.

# 24. 7/2/10 8:25 AM
Why in God's name are you asking about eating crap?!?

# 25. 7/2/10 8:26 AM by tw
I agree with everything except for the "under god" part. That was added in the 50s for stupid political reasons. Madison was an achiest and jefferson (at best) did not like organized Christianity or the modern (and corrupted) version of the bible. So forget the "Under God" part and you may have something.

Editor's Note: you ever read the gettysberg address, twit?

# 26. 7/2/10 8:39 AM by Dave - Rochester, NY
#25- What an absolute LACK of substantive truth to your statement. Jefferson was the one that corrupted the Bible by editing out any reference to supernatural actions by Jesus.

Sometimes a "political reason" for some kind of change, like adding the words Under God, are done for a good and proper reason. Unless you're a Moonbat. Then all reason flies out the window.

# 27. 7/2/10 8:40 AM
And right below this stirring, patriotic pledge is your stark ad with huge white letters on black background saying "FUBO...Figure it out...Mr. President".

An ad for products telling your and my president to FU.

This is the conservative mind in all it's hipocritical glory. Your ad completely betrays every supposedly honorable word you wrote.

And don't think reading that column every liberal wasn't thinking that you where including any liberals in your pledge to have allegiance to.

Editor's Note: i suspect liberals pledge to a different set of values

# 28. 7/2/10 8:48 AM
Bob, let Wease lead the way out of the crash in the Andes....so you can keep him in front of you.

Editor's Note: i might want a little bit faster pace

*

"conquered a continent" ?

Don't know if you noticed ( and obviously you didn't) but the larger half does not fly "Old Glory" or celebrate 04 July as a National holiday. Oh you guys tried to change that fact once by invading but you were thrown out of Canada with your tails between your legs. In this country, place names like Lundy's Lane, Queenston Heights and Crysler's farm, remind us that Canada's armed forces can, did, and will fight like no other.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! But remember you do not live alone on this continent.

Editor's Note: and remember, you do not live on this continent significantly.

# 30. 7/2/10 9:02 AM by L.G.R. - Salt Lake
thumbsup.gif ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! But Why, oh Why, did you sullie it with the cow manure & horse manure bit?

Editor's Note: actually, the results are just what i would predict. you take an absurd proposition, which no one has ever previously considered, put it to people, and a majority of people instantly have the same response. it's an interesting study of the human mind.

# 31. 7/2/10 9:05 AM
Hey, is your son coming back home this summer to do the local radio show where he has to feed the station dog between commercials? That gig sort of reminds me of a movie i saw a little while ago called Reed Fish or something like that where an upcoming broadcaster's son of his late radio talk show dad lives and works in a small town venue. Good flick, you two should rent it sometime and watch together.

Obama (paraphrased): "The border has never been as secure as it is now. Border related crime has never been lower."

Mexicans, near the border: bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang (21 dead)

# 34. 7/2/10 9:22 AM by Jodi - Wayne County East
One nation? Questionable.

Indivisible? Unlikely.

Under God? Which one? Certainly not the one of our forefathers.

Liberty and justice for all? Possibly social and economic.

Without proper reverence, understanding and belief in the God of the Bible and the principles in which our great nation was initially formed we will continue our bipolar/schizophrenic course towards unmitigated self destruction.

As Jesus wept over and prayed for the peace of Jerusalem, I too believe we must do the same for the proper leadership and restoration of the great nation that God has granted us and expects us to reside properly over and within.

# 35. 7/2/10 9:42 AM by alexander - upstate ny usa
I've put too much thought in this but here I go...

horse because I would rather put horse poo on my garden than cow dung.

therefore I already eat horse poo.

# 36. 7/2/10 9:45 AM by Rick G. - Spencerport, NY
Regarding the poll: I think I've had cow manure. Oh wait -- that was hummus. Never mind.

# 37. 7/2/10 9:50 AM by Ryan - Victor, NY
I often think about what these men did. Many of them were very well off and already wielded great power. They had so much more to lose than they had to gain on a personal level. They risked it all so that we could have what we have today.

Ask yourselves, would you do the same? Would you risk your money, your property so that other could be free?

That is what I celebrate this weekend.

# 38. 7/2/10 9:54 AM by rochester escapee
Whenever I recite the Pledge of allegiance, I omit the part "and justice for all." Christian hetero white males are the only demographic that is routinely discriminated against. Plus, the IRS sees to it that some people have more justice than others. Too many of us have become tax slaves.

Re your poll. Reminds me of the joke where an indian chief gathers his tribe before the oncoming winter and says, "I have good news and bad news. First the bad news. Due to your laziness and lack of self discipline, we have not stocked away enough food, and will have to eat buffalo dung to survive." The people are upset, and one asks what was the good news. The chief replies "We have an ample supply of buffalo dung."

thumbsup.gif I think this is one of your best columns and that some of the idiot commenter should go to another country and leave ours alone. GOD BLESS AMERICA

# 40. 7/2/10 10:21 AM by JOHN - MOUNTMORRISNY
thumbsup.gif I too pledge my Allegiance,
under the
universally symbolic
G.O.D. of acronyms.

G.-reater than
O.-ur
D.-imension of self.....

e pluribus unum... in that G.O.D. I trust...

I only wish that the "Family"?;(of?);
Courts of NYS would
pledge their allegiance too.
After defenestrating the Good Book,
(and truth), from our Courts,
(and schools),
after 200 years,
Is it any wonder where the divisibility,
loss of Liberty,
and injustice for all,
has its roots?

Still, in kindness and forgiveness,
I say, on the Fourth Of July,
G.O.D. Bless America.

"My Country is my cathedral,
The starry sky its dome,
They Call it America,
But I call it home."

Paraphrased song from our neighbors in Canada...

Sincerely,
yours truly,,and still true blue,,
an enemy of the "godless" state
of mammon rules.

# 42. 7/2/10 10:27 AM by Marcie Taylor - Eagle Mountain
thumbsup.gif Thank You Bob very well said! My family has served this wonderful Country and we are very proud they have. Thank you for all you do it is great to have loud voice's out there to get the word out about the wrong that is happening to our Country. As long as we the people and good people like you and other who are willing to speak out, Stand strong for what We as American's belive on, God will see us through!

# 43. 7/2/10 10:52 AM by JK Bell - Harrisville Utah
thumbsdown.gif Well, I don't pledge!

I don't pledge allegiance to the NAACP, NOW, AARP, NEA, IPCC, USDA and many, many, more.

I don't pledge allegiance to Hollywood, PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and many many more

I don't pledge allegiance to the Black Panthers, The KKK, CAIR and many, many more.

I don't pledge allegiance with any liberal who wants to kill the unborn, drain Lake Powell, stop road construction or save trees, whales or any type of rat.

I don't say the pledge of allegiance in my heart. Instead I think

On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country.

I love this country because it is almost always on the same side as God.

But this nation seems to be creeping on the dark side domesticlly.

# 44. 7/2/10 11:01 AM by J.Olsen - Kaysville, UT
thumbsup.gif Amen and Amen. Thanks Bob.

# 45. 7/2/10 11:06 AM by Diane T. - Orem, UT
I miss the Pledge of Allegiance on your show along with everything else.

# 46. 7/2/10 11:12 AM by John - SLC
Good column, as always.

Salt Lake's KSL is reported to be dropping Sean Hannity effective October 1. Sure would be nice to fill his slot with Bob Lonsberry!

At least we can hope...

We miss you, Bob!

# 47. 7/2/10 11:17 AM by Phillip
Bush and Cheney fed us a constant diet of bull!*&!@, so I guess we could survive some small portion of cow or horse manure.

# 48. 7/2/10 11:26 AM by maria
I pledge to your wisdom and stamina for writing this and i'm not eating ANY poop even if Jack Bauer told me too. would you rather be eaten by a bear or shark if you had to choose?

# 49. 7/2/10 11:45 AM by RC - Bloomington
Would this be a great stump speech to hear this 4th or what?

# 50. 7/2/10 11:52 AM by Marie
Lovely column. Lousy poll. Absolutely disgusting. What were you thinking?
