ABOUT THAT LIST OF UTAH ILLEGALS ...

# 1. 7/16/10 12:12 AM
thumbsup.gif Freakin-a! I hadn't connected those two dots! SS# and welfare fraud ... why haven't I heard anyone else make those points on the local news?!

You just elevated this story to a whole new level for me. Now I am pissed! All the whining from the local bleeding hearts that social security numbers were exposed (and I was feeling bad for them) -- WTF?! Who's numbers are they?

# 2. 7/16/10 12:18 AM
Exactly. Now all the emphasis is focused on finding and punishing whoever made the list public. Huh? Why not find and punish the illegals who have stolen the identities and $$$ of legal residents?

"Calling evil good and good evil" grows in prevalence everywhere we turn.

thumbsup.gif It might be interesting to check that list of Social Security Numbers to see how many have duplicate numbers. As Newt Gingrich said in one of his speeches, the Social Security Administration had not clued in to the fact that an illegal alien in California was the 43rd illegal to use the same social security number. What this country really needs is to get the Iraq and Afghan situations completed. Bring all the troops home, line them up along the Canadian border and head them south. Going house to house, collecting all the illegals, march them to the Mexican border and then give them a swift kick to send them on their way home. Illegals with U.S. born kids can be given a choice, give their kid up for adoption in the U.S. or take the kid to their native country with a Certificate of citizenship for the kid, so that when that kid reaches 18 he/she can go to any U.S. embassy and apply to re-enter the U.S. as a citizen. This would end the anchor-baby draw of illegals into the country.

Hey Bob. Paul Harvey has been dead for about a year and a half. Do you think we can also burt the "quick turnaround" phrase as it is actually the longest turnaround of the show? Do you know if Ann Marie Buerkle is related to former Rochester Olympic runner Dick Buerkle who Mr Google reminds me once held the world record for the indoor mile? Also did you know that there is a new Nick Tahoes opening this month on west Hhenrietta Rd in front of Kohls?

thumbsup.gif I read a couple of years ago that if the Federal Government can track one steer with Mad Cow disease back to where it was born, why the heck can't that same government track down some of the 13 million illegal aliens living in this country.

Answer, cows don't vote.

Supporters of illegal aliens do vote.

And, if we ain't careful, some jackass will push an act through congress allowing ALL residents, not just citizens, of the U.S. to vote.

# 7. 7/16/10 1:56 AM by dude - SLC, UT
thumbsdown.gif ...or, not everyone on the list is illegal and the names and private information was ditributed to the police and press of US citizens or legal immigrants. This information was extracted by a do-gooder state employee who is working outside the bounds of their job. How can you endorse that? I guess the end justifies the means, right? Who cares who gets hurt or railroaded along the way?

# 8. 7/16/10 2:17 AM by Brandon - Logan, UT
Thank you a billion times over for calling out the media and politicians on their absurd reactions to this list.

You'd think people were getting assaulted at their homes because this list was out, for all the "fear" they keep droning on about.

The only thing the illegals on that list have to fear is being deported for being here illegally. Forgive me if I'm not sympathetic.

As with Arizona's law, I believe this particular event is sad, but I believe that both point up the huge failure our government has been in enforcing our laws. Inasmuch as the fracas moves us towards a solution, towards action, I am happy with hullabaloo.

thumbsup.gif Protecting, encouraging, and elevating criminals of all types is an important tactic for both Partys' in their quest for power. The illegal immigrants are all criminals, many of them being killers, kidnappers, dope dealers, robbers etc. Welfare and Social Security benefits- fraudulently obtained, are key elements in decriminalizing the criminals-w/in the popular imagination, and the feeble brains of the spineless bureaucrats as well. But if the beady eyed poodle Attorney General of the U.S. fails in his case against Arizona all bets are off.

# 10. 7/16/10 6:32 AM by david - rochester
And speaking of guns...Here's a strange one. The Rochester Rifle Club, a good organization. Home to the Sporter Rifle Program for youth, a strong NRA proponent, a safe and enjoyable place to shoot 24 hours a day, and affordable, has been closed for 4 months. The reason cited by the officers of the club is that they are undergoing renovation. The reason that they have been closed for so long is that the contractor is behind. The problem is that they have continued to collect dues while members are denied the privilege of using the club. Multiple trips to the club show little if any sign of ongoing construction. Just recently a vague update was placed on the website referring to costs beyond our control. Is this old institution out of business? What about the denial of privilege to shoot and the refund of dues? Did somebody take off with some cash and lock the door? Ask the Mt Morris club if they want to take over a nice building with a built in membership.

# 11. 7/16/10 6:33 AM by Rick G. - Spencerport, NY
We have plenty of US citizens "graduating" from our public high schools with the skills to wash dishes and make beds, so I have no idea why every state in the country isn’t sending the governor of Arizona a fruit basket to congratulate her on having the stones to do what is right.

Now that BP has capped the well, maybe Mr. Obama can turn his myopic focus on a problem that is just as damaging.

You say there’s a list of 1300 some odd people who are here illegally? How many buses would it take to send them back?

What are the Mormons gonna do about this?

# 13. 7/16/10 6:55 AM by Lori - Ogden, UT
thumbsup.gif I have heard this story way too many times on the radio this past day and everytime I heard it I wondered outloud when someone was going to answer my question. Is it true? Are these people illegal aliens? To the alleged journalists: Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? Pretty basic stuff. Just answer the questions and stop calling me a racist, please!

# 14. 7/16/10 6:56 AM by rjd
Good point Bob. We tend to hear that being an illegal harms no one and is a bad law, but now, not only are they breaking one law by being an illeagal they are breaking at least two others laws, identity theft and fraud. Not to even to mention stealing money from the tax payer, sounds pretty harmless to me.

It's amazing how you almost constantly rant against the "left", when it is patently obvious that, in your country, at least, there is no left left. You just make yourself look out of focus. Try to find some perspective.

Editor's Note: you're right, in most of our country there is no left left. but in three or four big cities, and in washington d.c., they reign supreme.

# 16. 7/16/10 7:23 AM
Are there any illegals in Mt. Morris?

Editor's Note: sure

Our Campaigner-In-Chief is not POST racial... he is MOST racial president ever.

Someone start a countdown to when this guy will be voted out of office and into history.

Some of the darkest history this country has ever known.

thumbsup.gif Maybe I'm just dense, but I don't see a problem here with this list. Someone finally grew a little hair on their hind end and called a spade a spade. As I told my wife the day the story broke, the news will be about the compilers and distributors of the list, who they are and why the did it, not about the people on the list itself. KSL called ONE person on it and they claimed to be here legally...duh, ya think? Do some honest-to-goodness investigating to find out if those listed are legal, if not, deport them immediately! Since when is supporting the law a race issue? Why must we bend over backwards to assist in our own demise?

The media and politicians can call me racist all day long, but that doesn't make it so. I welcome immigrants that come in through the front door, using established policies and following the rules set down by Congress. I take vehement exception to those who feel it is okay to break our laws to get here and "provide a better life for their families"...wake up America, they are selling you B.S. sandwiches and our politicians and leaders are smiling the whole time they are forcing us to eat them! Common sense (and history) dictates we either follow the rule of law or civilization will crumble. Entering our country illegally may only be a misdemeanor, but it is still a violation of law! Sherriff Joe Arpiao has the right idea!

Viva SB 1070!!

# 19. 7/16/10 7:58 AM by tom - penfield
An illegal is using my wife's social security number. We know his name and also a former address. We had difficulty with this when my wife applied for a job and also when she applied for an auto loan. I called the social security office to ask what could be done. They told us, that if this is causing us problems, my wife could take out a new number. I was shocked. This is not the United States I grew up in. The rule of law has been trampled under the feet of the politically correct. There will need to be a revolution.

thumbsup.gif Bob, the Gulf oil gusher has been capped! Thank God! I believe all this is an anwser to prayer! I also believe that a Nation who prays together stays together! There still is hope!

This includes Sarah Palin asking God for "Divine Intervention" in the Gulf! The gulf lawmakers asking for prayer to God to save the gulf! Also includes James Carville asking for prayer to prevent a dem disaster in November! God works in mysterious ways! :>)

Is this the beginning of Christian Revival? Sarah Palin is now even in the polls vs Obama!

It`s going to be interesting to see how God answers our immigration problem! Bob, you responded with real wisdom about the list of 1800 illegals exposed in Utah! No one else dared to really tell it like it is regarding this problem!

Cal Pitzrick

Now that ES&L is downtown, and I would remind you that its kind of in the area of downtown that is OFF THE STRIP so to speak. I was wondering if they have their own cafeteria. Because I have heard so much about employees spending their money for lunch, etc. I have to salute the guy on the corner of West Main and Clinton for holding now the only monopoly as an eatery on that block. Furthermore, how long has that piece of property been empty on the corner of Broad and Exchange, right across from the Times Square Bldg? I think its been years.

# 24. 7/16/10 9:01 AM by Shaun - Provo
Bob, it is stuff like this that we miss without you. It is buried by the liberals running the show, or criticized or explained away. The people who I would bet are most upset by this are the legal immigrants who have done things right. Not only are they given a black eye, but they are made to look stupid for doing it the right way.

As for Mark Shurtliff, all I can say is misguided. I too have a latin heart, as he puts it, but that does not mean I support illegal activity. I love the Mexican people and am in favor of legal immigration and working with them to keep our country safe and secure. But, providing public assistance to those breaking the law...no way.

# 25. 7/16/10 9:04 AM by DD
thumbsup.gif I no longer care if I'm a racist. Sticks and stones. Get rid of the thieving, drug-smuggling illegal Mexican bastards.

I worked at a hotel in California that went into receivership...because of bankruptcy. The state court receiver who hired me to do the books did an interesting thing. When the illegals working in the housekeeping and banquets dept. payroll seemed unusually large, he wondered why. He took every personnel file and had the employees come down and he took polaroid pictures of each one with their alledged SS# written in Sharpie marker on the white strip below. He posted them on the wall. He was left with a list of names with no pictures, which quickly pointed out, they were duplicates. The person was picking up two paychecks with an illegal number. When they came in to get their checks, they had to have their SS cards with them or green cards. There were so many checks not picked up that week because the word spread that the jig was up. It cleaned up that business swiftly and put that department in the black as compared to the red. Why can't we do that here? Why can't we have business owners substantiate their employees legality? This was in 1978 and we did not have computers, we did this manual and no groups were screaming foul play.

# 28. 7/16/10 9:34 AM
Why do you and your supporters of your old radio job want you to get that job back when the results of the People Meter ratings showed that not alot of people were listening?

Isn't it true that radio shows are on the air to make money from selling commercials to advertisers who believe that a certain amount of listeners are listening?

If that amount of listeners is not really there then it is sort of corrupt for you and your supporters to want you to keep that job defrauding the advertizers.

And, besides that, why on earth would you want to crawl back to a station that fired you AND your son.

As for the illegal aliens from Mexico there are others out there who can dispute every point you made.

The one I will focus on is that Arizona law being unconstitutional. Illegal immigration falls under foreign policy and states are not allowed to determine foreign policy. Do you want states able to declare war on other countries, too?

Of course this column is just another column of rabble-rousing for right wing yahoo's in the GOP.

# 29. 7/16/10 9:47 AM
Fact is, the illegals are paying big money INTO Social Security and will never be able to collect.

It's bullcrap that illegals are here to do America wrong. They are hard working people who need work to support their families and most all of the work they do is work that is very low paying and very hard physically.

It is disgusting hearing you right wingers crap all over these poor people. Utterly despicable of you!

# 30. 7/16/10 9:57 AM by Jolene - Sandy, Utah ( papers to prove it )
thumbsup.gif Thanks for making my eff ing day. I'm tired of the language barrier at drive-thru restaurants! I'm tired of illlegal handouts! I'm working hard with my paperwork intact and so should I L L E G A L S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you earn the rights of being legal, different story. Why should I still get ticketed for no seat belt, registration, and failure to being able to pay attention to every damn orange construction damn vest and construction cone puzzle when driving. Why should my taxes benefit the no paperwork, rights unearned, nonsense of illegals????? I haven't been to West Valley City in forever. I've heard they've cleaned it up a bit, BUT I wondered the last time I was there how many of these shoppers get a free ticket every time they go to the grocery store? Not no, but HELL no on receiving welfare. I don't care what the circumstances are. My grandpa came over from Greece to Ellis Island and earned the right to be here in America.

# 31. 7/16/10 10:05 AM by William
Any Lonsberrys on that list, or just folks whose name is Rodriguez, etc.?

Editor's Note: i'm unaware of any lonsberrys who are illegal aliens

# 32. 7/16/10 10:06 AM by Russ Armstrong - Orem, Utah
thumbsup.gif Has anyone driven on State Street in Orem. More and more signs are in Spanish. I think there are folks (like me) who are fed up with the noodle spined polititians who won't do anything except give in to the Yappie dog. We need more lists like that.

# 33. 7/16/10 10:36 AM by Bobby - Santaquin, UT
thumbsup.gif When reporters broke the story they mentioned that there were social security numbers on the list. But that is where they left off. They did not seem to care at all about the SS#'s but focused only on the invasion of privacy issue instead. The first red flag I got from it was the SS#'s. How would someone who does not have a SS#, have a SS#. If authorities would investigate that, maybe they would be able to accurately determine wether or not the list is real.

# 34. 7/16/10 10:53 AM by Phillip Mecham
another of your great views of realism. How about the great Harry Reid's statement about illegals and the construction industry in Nevada? Do you think maybe there might be a few examples of that mentality in Utah?

# 35. 7/16/10 10:53 AM by Dave - Fairport, NY
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. They are called "illegal" aliens. Where's the question here? They are not in the country legally, so they should not be entitled to the benefits of this country. They should be given a one way ticket back to where they belong, and we'll even do more than we should do, and pay for the ticket. If they like it here so much, then take the time to go through the process the correct way so that you can live here legally.

Illegal=against the law. I simply don't see the debate here!

# 36. 7/16/10 11:08 AM by Porter Rockwell - Lake Bonneville
thumbsup.gif Interesting the similarities between the BP oil spill and illegal immigration: Obama cannot control either. He talks a lot about them, threatens people, threatens action, blames everyone else, produces lawsuits, but in the end does nothing. In fact, his long-term solution to both problems (no drilling / amnesty) is absolutely insane and only panders to the idiots.

Meanwhile, the USA is invaded, the mess is difficult to clean up, it's costing us millions, it's leaving businesses devastated, ruining vacation spots, and pitting governments against the people.

FUBO, FUBO, FUBO.

# 37. 7/16/10 11:17 AM by Phillip Mecham
I notice in reading the responses to your columns that the writers who most generally bad mouth us for agreeing with you (and include our names) are the ones who will not include their names, and they call us cowards.

# 38. 7/16/10 11:32 AM by Masked Marvel - Parts Unknown
I just can't help it ... but this entire illegal alien thing is the fault of George W. Bush ...

Your FUBO people should do a "Just Blame Bush" bumper sticker.

# 39. 7/16/10 11:56 AM by Jeff - Grantsville UT
thumbsup.gif The amazing part of the list for me if it was really generated by a state employee from a state data base is that the State of Utah has such a list and has chosen to do nothing about it. In fact the State is helping these people break the law. If one of the SSN on the list was mine I would file suit against the state for allowing it to knowingly happen. More than one crime has been committed here.

# 40. 7/16/10 12:17 PM by Bill - North Chili, NY
I'm with the crowd that says that most illegal immigrants are working hard and trying to support themselves and their families.

I'm also with the crowd that says that, if you are not in the country legally you need to leave the country.

Obama is right when he says we can't round up millions of illegal aliens to be deported. On the other hand, we COULD round up employers who hire illegal aliens. (The round up consisting of fines).

Once the jobs are gone, the aliens will leave.

# 41. 7/16/10 12:23 PM by Sheryle - Holladay, Utah
thumbsup.gif You are right on, Bob. Why are officials looking at the person who gave us the information that no one else would? Who cares who leaked the info? (A brave soul and hero in my opinion). What don't officials understand about ILLEGAL???? Go after the illegals and take back our SS#'s. Isn't using other people's SS#'s ILLEGAL!!! Thanks Bob, for your insights and honesty.

# 42. 7/16/10 12:39 PM by J Johnson - S Sioux City, NE
thumbsup.gif Let me see if I have this right. My Social Security benefits are determined by how much money is deposited to my account. If I deposit AND an illegal deposits the same amount to my account, my benefits should be double. Wow! I am looking for about 10 illegals. I will retire in 10 years.

# 43. 7/16/10 12:43 PM by Wade - Eagle Mountain, UT
thumbsup.gif I think the people that made the list should get in trouble for whatever laws they broke, but I also totally agree with you. I know lots of illegals, and pretty much all of them use fake Social Security numbers to work and get benefits. I even know several legal immigrants who have their own real Social Security numbers, but they use fake Social Security numbers to hide their income so that they can get government benefits. It's wrong.

# 44. 7/16/10 12:48 PM by d - sandy
I don't feel for the ones on the list if they are here illegally. I don't feel sorry for them if they are collecting welfare either.I had my social stolen many years ago and the state seems to protect the ones that took it rather than protect those who were issued it. I think someone should look into those who are not serving and protecting us.

# 45. 7/16/10 2:19 PM by Cory Dixon - Payson, Utah
Bob I was reminded of a certain fact and old policy today while listening to the radio this morning. Before 9/11 guest workers, aliens issued a visa for what ever reason, work, student, etc. were given social security numbers.

I heard if reported that some of the people on the list have been in the USA for over 15 years and were issued a SS number soon after arriving here.

I also would like to know if any of those SS numbers are duplicates? Anyone got an answer?

# 46. 7/16/10 2:33 PM by Lois T. - Honeoye Falls NY
thumbsup.gif On a quick lunch hour from work, so will read complete article later. BUT after just the 1st few paragraphs, my thoughts: I guess it is again indicative of the oxymoron Government Intelligence: What do our gov't officials not understand about the word ILLEGAL? If they are in our country illegally, the rest should not even be up for discussion!

thumbsup.gif "And that’s the aspect of all this that no one is going to mention. "

You did. And we thank you for giving this issue some light.

It is amazing that the govt knows of many of these folks using fraudulent SS #'s and does not take any action. They would send my company a list of all the SS#'s that were in question. We would ignore it. That would be the end of it. PS: they were union workers getting paid a good wage.

# 49. 7/16/10 3:11 PM by Krista Nielson
The first responce I had was ; where's the law protecting us 'legals' at. I understand, compltetly why someone with access to this information caused it's release. This whistle blower DESERVES A REWARD.

# 50. 7/16/10 3:11 PM by anonymous - SLC, UT
thumbsdown.gif Never heard of such a list Bob. But I don't think much of calling a human being an illegal alien. But then I'm more spiritually advanced than you are. If the Governor of Arizona cares so much why isn't she working on immigration reform? She's a b. My 2 cents.
