I agree Bob, but when i say it it doesnt have the same affect on me, in fact i rarely notice I have said it.

Seems a lot of effort on my part to ensure someone else's feelings are not hurt.

I actually think someone getting upset about it is rather strange, they should only be upset if them themselves say it like this.

If Jesus is the unchallenged saviour of the world and is in fact one aspect of god, who made all of creation and chritians beleiev this then how can they be offended, as they know it obviously isnt true.

If some one made fun of em for having bright blue skin i wouldnt get upset, because I havent.

"Mind your own feckin business" was actually my favourite jesus quote.

You are absolutely right, but I'm sure the mockers will come out today to belittle you for saying so. Isn't it interesting that you never hear people saying "Oh my Allah" or "Buddha" or taking other gods names in vain? Only the Christian God is OK to profane. Why is that?

My favorite thing to say out of frustration is Jesus Christ. I look at it that I am calling his name to help me, not in a bad way. And based on the fact that God created man, and his son, that God created me. He gave me the vocal chords to say what I want. If someone is offended, which it sounds like you get when people say it, get over it! I get offended by a lot of the things you say. Every time you disrespect the President, I get offended. It is an office to be respected, no matter who is in there. I hated Bush, but I respected his office of the President. And many times during those awful years of his puppet presidency I found myself screaming "Jesus Christ!"

God's word, the Bible, tells us that it is not what enters a persons mouth that profanes him, but that which comes out of a persons mouth is that which is truly in their heart and makes them unclean.

Thank you Bob for telling people Jesus' last name is not Christ.

It is His title and it is synonymous with, The Messiah, The Anointed One of God.

It's very said to see the great bitterness and contempt many of your readers have towards Christianity on both sides of the political aisle.

It's even more sad to see how little even people who claim to be Christians and attend a church know about the Bible and the God they claim to serve.

If you really want to know God read His book yourselves and pray that His Holy Spirit will open your eyes to His Truth.

Don't assume what somebody else tells you, even a pastor or a priest, is really what the Bible says.

Everyone has an agenda and for most it is more self serving than not.

Do you know Jesus the Anointed One of God as your personal Lord and Savior?

Are you Rapture Ready?

thinking of God or JC when frustrated and saying it ought to include the word thanks. Like thanks alot God as the bible says give thanks in "all things". We give thanks even if things aren't going our way, especially if things aren't going our way. How we say it is trivial and damn is not to be included.

I also think many in your survey are not being honest and I give thanks for that. Why? because the Bible tells me to. Why? not sure but there is always something we can believe at what another person says even if it's just that we believe that they believe they are honest.

Thank you. Of all the many and varied forms of cursing, this is the one that I find most offensive by far. For me, it's like a slap in the face every time I hear his name used this way.

My personal favorites are:

"Jesus f***ing Christ" or,

alternatively,

"Christ on a sidecar!!" - which makes almost as much sense as, say, "F*** me running!"

Which I've never understood - but people do say it, I guess.

I think people who get offended by swearing should probably drop out of society. I am sure there are plenty of caves out in the desert, or on a mountain somewhere, where you can live by yourself and not have to deal with "others".

The rest of us are not here to dance around your delicate sensibilities. Toughen up, please.

When I was Catholic, every Saturday you went to confession. Basically, the ten commandments were a guideline in telling you what you did and didn't do that week and you determined your sins by using the ten commandments as a measuring stick. Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in Vain. It was pure and simple and concise. Any deviation, you have sinned. I totally agree with your 'sermon'. Where some use this name to petition in our own behalf or for others, mercy, health, healing, others throw it around in anger and mockery. It is holy and not to be used lightly. In the Bible it says, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain." That to me says it all. Repent my friends.

In the old Testament cursing (cussing) was quite a part of life and I doubt God pays attention to such requests.

It's telling that those who advocate the rules of politically correct speech never have a problem with insulting and denigrating Christians and their beliefs. I believe that their hostility is a form of rebellion against what they know deep down is true. Instead of reconciling with the Truth, they try to bury it.

Thirty minutes ago in Wegmans, I saw a little guy about five years old bump into a stack of boxes. As he was rubbing his head, his dad looked down at him and snapped, "Jesus Christ! Watch where you're going!"

That little exchange right there told me all I need or want to know about that man's character and parenting.

Jesus christ what a crock of crapola. Amusing how you claim that not using the name as a curse is a simple courtesy yet that name is used by christians as a means to express their own hatred/fear etc against others. So christians expect courtesy yet don't feel they need to give it. Like your friendly christian pastor who thinks Jesus would advocate beating the gay out your kids. Yeah lovely bit of courtesy that is. Where is christian courtesy to keep their religion out of other peoples lives and family planning decisions and relationships etc? Not everyone suffers from the obvious mental illness of religion. Therefore you should not expect everyone to agree or care. People don't have to respect your beliefs. Just your right to believe it. Big difference. Here is an idea, if you believe all that ridiculous nonsense then believe it and shut the f up about it. How about that? How about if christians quit trying to have their religion legislated to everyone? Lets get something straight. This is not nor has it ever been a "christian nation". So go ahead and believe whatever you want. Just keep it to yourself. No one else cares.

Thank you, Bob. Needed saying. Too many times people don't pay attention to what they are doing. I don't ever use words to disrespect my Savior. And I don't swear. Unless 'Oh my goodness' or 'Oh no!' is swearing. My Auntie used to say 'Well for evermore'. In the Bible it says to say Yea Yea or Nay Nay. Right?

One place I worked a co-worker (in CA) a bunch of us were joking around for a new moments at break. A gal, was using "bad" words in describing her antics when another co-worker, a guy, stopped her and said 'Don't talk like that around Kathy.' I had nothing against her, in fact liked her a great deal, and was just overlooking the 'common' language usage. However I thought that was pretty respectful of the guy, and that had had even noticed that didn't use 'bad' language.

We can influence others, even when we don't realize that we are.

So Bob, when was the last time you said "Holy cow!" Same diff. Just food for thought. Myself? I prefer the oxymoron "holy crap." In other words, neither is good when held to the standard of your article. It all depends on whether or not one wants to police their speech to be sensitive to all beliefs.

In other words, though I agree it'd be nice if we were all be more supportive of others' beliefs and it was reflected in our language, I'm not going to judge somebody to be foul just because they use the expletives engrained in their brain since they were born. I haven't given up the cow or the crap. So how can I hope for others to give up using what I don't agree with?

The Nuns at Most Holy Rosary taught us to bow our heads whenever we heard the name Jesus. I don't know if that is still taught in parochial schools nowadays.

The First Commandment:

You shall have no other gods before Me.

If you don't recognize and take seriously the First Commandment don't bother trying with the rest of them. You've already failed miserably.

The Great Commandment:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and soul.

Don't bother attempting to love your neighbor as yourself unless you first devout yourself fully to the first. No point.

It's like trying to live by the Bill of Rights minus the First Amendment.

It's first for a reason.

Without it the rest is meaningless.

Last week a U.S. appeals court struck down a ban on political ads on public broadcasting.

It's supposed to violate the 1st amendment. That means the local PBS or NPR station could start running political attack ads right away on the West coast. (9th circuit)

It started when a station in San Francisco accepted money to air a Chevrolet and State Farm ad due to money issues

Many fear big bucks will be offered to put on political ads and fearing this may mean eventually all the stations will have to air these ads.

The bible tells us that life and death is in the tongue. God knows our mouth builds or destroys relationships/a life. That is why we need him to help us control our tongue. Self-control is one of the Fruits of the Spirit. When there is a lack of control there is trouble every time! In my studies and in my own life I find that self-control is the most powerful of the fruits, as the others cannot exist or say, strengthen without exercised self-control from the Spirit.

I agree faith is the defining characteristic, of course. I was conveying about the Fruits of The Spirit and self-control. Faith is trust in God. We, as believers, trust God in deep faith to aid us in controlling our tongue to choose life (words that uplift and edify to build relationships) not death (words lacerate and destroy relationships) -- all's we have to do is ask and then work with him on that - in faith that he will help us.
