CULTURE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

It is interesting to hear a guy who calls himself White Trash talk about culture. We have less of a coherent culture in this country all the time. Reminds me of the Tower of Babel.

The cultural differences you used as examples - attitudes towards education, hard work, and crime - are prevalent in our country today. Our own political correctness and tolerance will, no doubt, be the cause of our demise.

Political correctness is the downfall of our society .It tiptoes around truth and calls right ,wrong ,and wrong right,It has caused the duming down of our society,It sets criminals free to cause mayhem,It rewrites history,It apologizes to rat hole dictators that claim that the USA has wronged their rat hole countries,It allows ILLEGAL ALIENS to get drivers licenses and welfare benefits, name the problem, and PC IS LIKELY THE ROOT!

Mitt has the temerity to boldly observe and state the hard truth; the spooked left predictably condemns his observation. I note a hint of Reagan in Mitt - yet one more reason to elect him. When he takes office, the world will reluctantly snap to attention...and (not coincidentally) the stock market will finally soar, businesses will hire and fuel prices will plummet.

Tom I think your bigotry is showing, money has nothing to do with making the right choices in life. This idea that some how money gives you class is obviously not true, in fact culture is not about money at all.

Morning Bob, I would vote for the Republican candidate no matter what, but I sure am starting to really like Mitt. He wasn't my first choice, but he is turning into a great candidate and will win in November.

Bishop Sheen wrote that right is right, if nobody is right, and wrong is wrong, if everybody is wrong. Mitt Romneys comments on culture imply the same. And my guess is that Mitt Romney believes the same. The communists in the press, and government, understand all too well the importance of culture but believe that right is what they say it is at any moment. The morons who "embrace diversity" have a slogan that all but boils it down to two words. Unfortunately, the morons are winning-temporarily.As they did in Germany, and Russia,a few decades ago.China anyone?

France has a Ministry of Culture which is charged with maintaining all things French from art to language to everything in between. The French are proud of their culture and fight to protect it. The French have a phrase, “économie et culture, même,” which means “combat economy and culture: it's the same fight.”
An individual or a country can’t survive without a cultural identity. Naturally, this can evolve, but it should not degrade or concede defeat to a cultural ideology that is not fundamentally theirs.
Mitt is right and anyone who can’t see that is dead wrong.
Editor's Note: not to out french a frenchy, but either your quote or your translation are defective. the french phrase you quote says nothing of combat or fight, it merely says that the economy and the culture are the same, mon frere.

The true phrase that I heard from the French was, "Military rifle for sale, never fired and dropped only once while surrendering."

So Mitt has a successful trip to Israel and the press does it's best to discredit him.
This is new?
What we have here is a left wing press casting about for any comment that they can use against Mitt and the Republicans. This is what the liberal press does every time that their leader is threatened in the polls. It is too predictable.
Unfortunately, equally predictable is the Republican response. The right is constantly allowing the left to define the terms of the race. It is time that Republicans returned to message. It is time that the Republicans fought Obama on grounds that he cannot defend:
THE ECONOMY. THE ECONOMY. THE ECONOMY (STUPID).
Obama cannot win on his record. He must have his feet held to that fire every day until the election. His liberal drones in the press continually try to steer the conversation elsewhere ( and they are pretty good at it) but Republicans must stick to their script and refuse to be detoured into a battle that the left has chosen.
Blah, blah, blah. Culture, culture culture.
What is that unemployment rate again?

The Palestinians threw away decades of potential political and social advances by following Yassar Arafat, one of the most corrupt and evil leaders in their history. He had many opportunities to improve his peoples lives, but he would not accept them for fear he would lose his lock on power.

Funny story - funnyish anyway. When we were in Paris, the tour guy explained the Ministry of Culture when we drove by the building. I was so impressed with the idea of somebody actually taking culture seriously that I wrote down what he said. I cribbed that off my 5-year old notes. Should've proofed it.
You get the idea, though. As Doris Day said, Kay Sara, Kay Sara

Of course honesty is NOT PC these days. See Mitts comments about the Olympics and now this.
For those addicted to PC, kissing butt is far more important than to be honest. See there are no winners or losers, you didn't build that, you can't possibly be smarter or or more deserving; this isn't just political b--- s---, these folks believe this.
And to be honest, it sounds way too much like socialism to me!
I am 64 years old, I thought that Kennedy and Clinton were good presidents, (good president does not necessarily mean good person) same for Reagan and Bush # 1; so for me it is not a democrat and republican thing. But in this election, if Mitt does not win, I believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of the greatest democracy in the world.
# 14. 7/31/12 8:33 AM
Great to have you back, Bob!

Sounds very similar to the two cultures we have here in the US. The one that does for ones self taking advantage of educational opportunities making smart choices and the others who depend on others for support and end up in jail.
Editor's Note: and that was probably the bigger message mitt was sending

Did you see where Mitt yesterday clearly stated that Jerusalem was the Capital of Israel? Later, Jay Carney wouldn't even answer a question from a reporter asking whether it was Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. The Press Secretary of the President won't even answer a simple question, amusing and pathetic at the same time.

Hey #6---that's the problem with voters like you---you are nothing more than lemmings jumping off a cliff. The GOP says jump, and you jump. That is very scary to see----a voter who follows blindly no matter what---kind of like the Germans under Hitler.

THEY can't handle the truth!!

Couch it all you like, "Culture" which the Obama family has respect for, is your racist way of pointing out that "this here boy ain't from around here, is he?" that you folks have been spouting since the birther movement was born (probably in Kenya). Get on with it folks, we jave an "ALL INCLUSIVE" nation here. We should be proud that our culture can accept the fact that the country doesn't need to be run by a rich white guy, but by someone who symbolized all that is wonderful about America. Not the dirty laundry that is kept hidden in off-shore tax shelters.
Editor's Note: no, what i'm really saying is that lazy dropouts who use drugs and mooch off welfare should stop bitching about how the man is screwing them.
# 20. 7/31/12 10:30 AM
Most would agree that it is better to have money than not. Faulting the rich for having money is stupid.
Although Bob claims to be white trash it surely looks to be a thing of the past in his family tree.
Now don't laugh, but Bob actually at times seems to be an inspiration, and he has an uncanny ability to relate his own experiences and even shortcomings without fear or shame, and that is a sign of true wisdom. He is sort of the Ben Franklin of Rochester, for lack of a better comparison.

While I'm not a huge Mitt fan, he was right on on this on. And so are you.

Mitt was just saying you Jewish guys are good with money. What's wrong with that?

A bit off the topic: I spent $3 on the Sunday D&C and aside from the fact that I spent a whole 10 minutes on its content (excluding looking through the coupons in the inserts and doing the puzzle), I've been perplexed by the headline: "What should colleges commit?" Commit what??? What kind of question is that? Is this an illustration of how our educational institutions are really educating? Am I just out of touch with the current culture that has bastardized our language?
# 24. 7/31/12 11:45 AM by Anne - Webster
Language, culture, borders. Mitt was right about security at these olympics (did you see the chick in red shirt and jeans jumping into the opening ceremony?) and he is right on now.
# 25. 7/31/12 12:28 PM by Steve
I really don't think it matters what mitt says. The media seems to make a big deal over anything. One reason why I just can't watch the news anymore.
Ps that commercial that has mitt singing in it I guess it's for Bo? IMO it sort of makes mitt look good since all I seem to pay attention to is the signing and the fact he knows the words.

To #17: And I suppose this has nothing to do with the 95% of Blacks who voted, pulled the lever for Obama?
# 27. 7/31/12 5:13 PM by Old Ham - Great_Basin
Great column, Bob. Mitt was absolutely right. Not all cultures are created equal, obviously.
On another note; three cheers for Rick Gorka, the Mitt aide who told the MSM to “kiss my a$$” when they started harassing Mitt in Poland about “gaffs”.
I so loathe the MSM, and cheer when our side effectively flips them off.
It’s a street fight, time to act like it.
# 28. 7/31/12 7:41 PM by Eli - Clarendon, NY
Hey #17! You would obviously vote for any liberal socialist.

Culture makes all the difference. I agree. But the right amount of culture used in the right way for the right purpose for the right ends is not an easy culture...
Too much culture will curdle the milk of kindness and spoil like a raisin rotting in the sun...(words from just a poem, which compares a dream deferred too long to a raisin rotting in the sun.)
# 30. 7/31/12 10:20 PM
Agreeing with the profanity uttered at a historic national site is hardly a class act but then I don't expect class or good manners from conservatives.
Editor's Note: i know. when biden told the president in the white house in front of a roomful of reporters that obamacare was "a big f---ing deal" it really reflected very poorly on hateful conservatives.
# 31. 8/1/12 12:01 AM
I think economy is the same way. People say there is starvation because farmers feed large amounts of grain to stock, Or countries are situated in bad climates.
Even in some drought stricken areas people manage to find food, While in raindropped countries there is starvation. Why are Hawaii and New Zealand prosperous while the rest of the Pacific is not as fortunate? Why is the Dominician Republic more prosperous than Haiti with the same climate?
Why is Africa a continent rich in natural resources stricken with famine and poverty in many parts. Did drought cause the Ethiopian famine in the 80's and lack of aid, though the Us and other countries probably saved many lives there when they got passed the marxist governments.
South Africa probably should have a worse climate than other African countries but is the most prosperous. It is not climate what farmers feed livestock, But government and lifestyle that causes poverty or prosperity.
